Premium Residential Maintenance Manager Job Posting

Birdwatch is an innovative residential home management and maintenance company serving PA, DC, MD, VA (and soon NJ). We're not like any other contractor you’ve worked for. We’re growing quickly and need to hire exceptional technicians. But skill alone isn’t enough, we need high-integrity, positive-minded, curious problem-solvers (these are dealbreakers for us). This particular role is for a Maintenance Manager who will split time between field work and team pod management.

Compensation

Compensation includes PTO, medical/dental/vision benefits coverage, short- and long-term disability, and company stock options. Salary is $80,000-$90,000 per year.

Great Candidates

Here are some indicators of great candidates:

  • Proven experience in maintenance management, specifically in residential repairs and home improvement. This means you’ve run great teams, practiced servant leadership to bring the best out in people, managed efficiently and with data, know how to attract talent, etc.
  • Demonstrated history of being a great tech/mechanic/craftsman – i.e. years of professional handyman, carpentry, or residential remodeling experience
  • Experience engaging directly with homeowners/customers, using your emotional intelligence as a superpower to win people over in difficult situations
  • Ability to oversee multiple trades, including ones in which you are not a specialist (Birdwatch team pods consist of carpentry, paint/drywall, light electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.)
  • Self-sufficiency, but knowing when to ask for help (this is a strength, not a weakness)
  • Enjoyment of a little bit of chaos and pressure, while not easily rattled

Some requirements:

  • Excellent communication in English, pero un poco de español es una ventaja.
  • Closer is better, but must reside within a 40 minute commute of downtown Philadelphia and the Main Line
  • In the future we might have a fleet of vehicles, but for now we need techs with their own reliable and presentable work truck or van (we reimburse non-commute mileage)
  • You own your own standard set of hand & power tools, we have inventory of other stuff and provide stipends for consumables and wear/tear
  • Comfortable using a smartphone to access and manage company apps for tasks, jobs, and the scope of work.
